Signe Remembers

Aunt Signe (1888-1962) was the family historian and story teller. She wrote to everyone and she saved the relics of our family history. She also wrote down her own memories of childhood in the 1890's at The Forecastle, on an island in the river Lagan at Laholm (see map) where her father Fritz was a miller. The mill is long gone and Signe and her brothers and sisters are no longer with us, but her memories survive.

Eva Gometz has translated Signe's memoir into English. It is linked here as a pdf file, "Back Home at the Forecastle". If you don't have the free Adobe Reader on your computer, you can download it here.
